Well y'all, as most of you know, I've been on vacation this week. I have really been enjoying myself spending some great time with my brother and his family.
I'm a little curious how all of you do with your band when you're on vacation. Specifically, the first vacation you took after being banded if you can remember it. This has been the week from hell bandwise for me. I have not been able to keep hardly anything down. Last night I was so sick that all that was coming up was stomach acid at about 3:00 am. Which I know this was coming from below my band. Way beyond a PB here.
Now, I've read on a few of blogs that when you travel, your band tightens up a little bit and you have some issues keeping food down. Also, when my mom was first banded and she flew out here she couldn't keep food down. She said she was sick almost every meal. I say this because realistically, she's going to have the most similar issues/results that I do.
I'm terrified that I've slipped my band. When I go for my next appointment I think I'm going to do a barium swallow to make sure that it didn't slip. Even if things get back to normal I think I'm still going to do it.
I seem to always have this feeling that I'm very full or something is stuck. I know that when we PB or throw up it causes us to have some swelling. I'm hoping this is the main issue that I'm having. The tightness of being on vacation as well as the swelling from being sick.
So, I'm looking for some input here. How do you guys do when you're on vacation? And, if you can remember the first vacation you went on after being banded it would benenficial to me as well. I just want to make sure that what's going on is somewhat normal. Make no mistake though, I hate this. I think the only thing that I've kept down this week was a few pieces of lunchmeat and some grape juice.
Let me also say that I'm not doing/eating anything out of the ordinary. And I KNOW I'm not eating too much because I have to throw it up after just a few bites. Less than I would eat normally. So, like I said, let me have it guys. Let me know what you think or the experiences that you've had with this. I'm looking for any input or suggestions.
I've also read that someone that was having issues called her bariatric doc and he said she needed to get an unfill immediately. That really isn't an option for me because I'm in a small-ish town in Ohio. And I'm going home tomorrow. Hopefully things will be back to normal. I might call them when I get home and see what they want me to do because there is a bariatric doc where I live so that would be an option for me at that time.
Silver lining........I've lost about 8 pounds this week. *shrug*

Oh man :( what a bummer! I hope your okay.
I would call your Dr and get in asap. I just did a post on vacation I am leaving on Tuesday and am a little nervous about being on vacation for 9 days and not on my schedule.
Call your doctor in the morning and see if they can get you in on your way home. If that's all you've been able to get down in a week then something is going on and you're too tight. I'd definitely go to all liquids for now as well. Lots of people have trouble flying and getting tight, I didn't notice that so much, but on my first vacation I was stressed and eating more than usual and I got into the PB cycle (Aug., when I had my 'horrific PB event' and was PBin in the car on the way home...I've learned that after a bad PB or a long one to go back to liquids until things settle down...hopefully that's all this is for you. If you've tried liquids for a day and you still can't eat then you definitely need to see your doc...you don't want to cause a complication and lose your band vs getting some unfilled. ((hugs)) And Call first thing, I'm worried about you!
thanx for the advice. i haven't went to a day of full liquids. i've been doing mostly liquids. like today i tried potato soup and it didn't work. so i'm going to call the doc tomorrow and see what the deal is and find out what they want me to do. thanx for the concern and i'll keep you all posted.
upon further examination i think it's a touch of the flu. things are coming out of both ends. not as bad with the throwing up today as it has been. last night was the absolute worst. hopefully i'm ok to fly tomorrow. i've never flown with the flu, but i imagine it's better than driving, but still not fun. i guess we'll see.
